Kintsugi as Year-End Wisdom
As the year winds down, we often search for the right gifts to express gratitude, love, and presence. Kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold—invites us to consider a different kind of offering.
What if the most meaningful gifts we give this season are the golden seams we’ve earned?
Each challenge, setback, or quiet fracture of the past year has created a space where growth could take root.
When we think of the care we’ve received from friends, family, and colleagues, we begin to notice the invisible gold threaded through our days. Community becomes the gleaming lacquer poured into the cracks, making us whole again. In recognising this, we celebrate not only the beauty shaped from brokenness but also the people who helped us emerge more resilient and radiant.
This season, may we give gifts that mirror our journeys: not flawless vessels, but ones traced with wisdom, gratitude, and golden seams. And as we craft with intention, we can reflect on the support and encouragement that helped us mend along the way. Our pottery-painting event on December 7th will be a moment to honor those who held us—and the gold they offered when we needed it most.
